Brittle Heart

English term for brittle heartwood, a zone of short-brittle wood in the inner trunk area, often recognizable on cross-sections by a broken surface. This short brittleness can occur particularly in strong trunks of light to moderately heavy tropical wood types and significantly limit the usability of such heartwood parts.
