The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC®) is an international non-profit organization that has set itself the task of certifying wood for its sustainability. All wood products from Betterwood are FSC®-certified. That means the tropical wood has to ten principles of the FSC® fulfill. The principles summarize the extensive standards for sustainable wood products. For example, a forestry company must submit a precise management plan in which no more wood is removed from the forest than will grow back in the same period. Compliance can be checked, since illegal interventions in the forest can still be proven many years later. The population must also benefit from the cultivation and the rights of the indigenous population must be guaranteed. At the same time, the diversity of species and the ecological benefits of a forest must be preserved and strengthened: This applies to primary forests, but also to plantations. The FSC® certificate system is the most internationally recognized and strictest control for sustainable wood products. That's what he recommends WWF only FSC wood to use. The FSC® regularly and independently checks forestry, sawmills and traders - i.e. every part of the trade chain - for compliance with its standards. In addition, we stand by Betterwood on site in Latin America in direct contact with our suppliers and foresters and can get an idea of the working conditions, the rainforest and the plantations.
