Betterwood Warehouse Drolshagen

Betterwood " About us

About Us

Betterwood is a slightly different kind of wood trade: more sustainable, transparent and committed than traditional companies. Here we would like to give you a look behind the scenes and introduce you to the people who make Betterwood possible.

Our story

The beginning

We founded our company in 2009. Our goal was to promote sustainable forest management in the tropics and thus stop the displacement of forests by agriculture. The idea came from Christian Körting, who tackled the project together with his sister Catherine Körting. Together with Philip Jaeger, Catherine's partner, was founded.

place of incorporation: Ganghoferstrasse 2, Berlin-Neukölln

Betterwood goes online

Our original business idea was to act as an agency and sell certified tropical wood to the timber trade. However, the established companies in the industry showed little interest in eco-tropical wood. This is how the idea of direct sales came about: Why not work without agencies, importers and wholesalers and deliver the good wood directly to private customers and their craftsmen? Our online shop Betterwood was the key to this: more transparent, direct and ecological. This is how the sustainable idea was able to unfold its power. Because unlike large parts of the trade, private customers are interested in whether forest is being destroyed or protected for their terrace.

Our Locations

While our sales department was always in Berlin (from Neukölln via Treptow and today in Moabit), our warehouse once moved across Germany. We stored our first container with FSC®-certified Cumaru decking from Bolivia at a shipping company in Hamburg. The camp then moved to Michendorf near Potsdam. In 2014 we moved into a warehouse in Nümbrecht in the Cologne area. And since 2021 we have been storing in Drolshagen near Olpe. The location, area and the local employees allowed us to put down roots there.

Our perspective

A lot has changed since we were founded a good ten years ago. The idea of sustainability has moved from the niche into the center of society. Online trading has become established. Thousands of customers know us and have recommended us. So far we have been able to do without advertising and prefer to use the money to support environmental projects. We grow every year, without outside investors and only through our own efforts. We have expanded our warehouse and now have 8.000 square meters of space available in Drolshagen. With our planning tools, we are also the technological pioneers in the industry. And we never lose sight of our founding idea: to promote sustainable forest management in order to protect the forest.
